A funny interview…

Such a tight groove. I wish I was Glasper, playing jazz by day and sweet hip hop grooves by night.

I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this man for a while. If you havn’t listened to him yet, you should, he will probably change your life.

Pushing Hands - He’s Still Here (by Matt Ritson)

Wow. This song is incredible. The first album was great but the second one looks set to be on a whole new level. Robin Pecknold (singer) is a genius, and also looks quite like a fox - how appropriate.

God bless science.

This has always been my favourite Elbow song, but I’ve only just listened to this live version from their ‘Live from London’ CD. God damn it’s amazing, it hits me in the gut everytime. It’s on spotify (along with their new album build a rocket boys - equally amazing).

I feel massively guilty about using spotify ever since I read that artists recieve just 0.085p per stream. That means 1000 plays of a song will net you 85p…pretty disgraceful. However, I don’t think I can tear myself away from using it, because it’s allowed me to listen to such a breadth of music - I can explore whole genres, entire back catologues and new releases which I couldn’t hope of affording to pay for.

It’s a particularly pertinent dilemma for me because it seems likely that mine and John Law’s CD will end up on spotify when it’s released on 33 Records in the near future, considering that a lot of their releases are on there now (type in label:33 if you’re interested). And to be honest the thought of people being able to listen to our CD which we’ve put so much time and money and hard work into at effectively zero benefit to us makes me feel pretty screwed over.

And of course there’s nothing I can really do. But I can endeavour to support musicians more by paying for music where I can, and where I feel it’s really worthwhile. I’ll sleep a little better at night that way.

Now this is a great album.

WOW

I LOVE THIS MAN.

Amazing video, psyched to hear the album

Phronesis – Abraham's New Gift (0 plays)

I went to see Phronesis last night. It was truly awesome - jazz at it’s most explosive and kinetic and jaw dropping. This track is called ‘Abraham’s New Gift’ from their live album ‘Alive’ released last year. If you’re a sucker for odd time signatures like me, this is in 15/8 (divided into a 6 and a 9). Try and keep up…and turn it up loud.

I recorded an album with the award winning, internationally acclaimed, and all round amazing pianist John Law in October last year. It’s being released by 33 records in the near future.

This is just us messing around on a blues after we’d finished the recording. Don’t worry, the playing on the cd is a thousand times better, this was just a bit of fun. Enjoy (hopefully).
